Another example of the CMR's extensive involvement with community groups occurred in early September 2006. It was the day of a fundraising luncheon conducted by the Cooma Hospital Auxiliary. Once again CMR provided two railmotors to convey the participants to our hall at Chakola. The hall has been the subject of an ongoing rejuvenation program over the last few months and the improvements are readily apparent, especially in the kitchen area. Another good time (including live entertainment) was had by all before the train returned mid afternoon to carry everyone back to Cooma.
And Again...
Following is a further instance of what the CMR probably does more than any other activity - conveying groups on an enjoyable and informative journey through the Monaro countryside. In this case it was a group of ex girl guides who chartered the train to take them to a self catered function in our hall at Chakola. (However it could just as easily be a school group, a social club, a birthday party or any other group large or small).
A sunny Saturday morning in May as the guests arrive for the trip to Chakola. During the journey, attendants will provide commentary on the history and features of the line and surrounding countryside.
On arrival at Chakola, the group proceeds to the hall (behind trees in centre of photo below) on the banks of the Numeralla River for their function.
Some 3 hours later the train returns to transport the happy group back to Cooma, completing a scenario that the CMR has enacted hundreds of times during the past 7 years.
