Over the past few months, our team have been working through the cleaning and preparation work for the restoration of our Timber Bodied Refrigerated Box Van MBC22959. Before visible repairs could be commenced, decades of dirt, grease and oil had to be removed from the body, along with areas of rotten and damaged external timbers. This allowed us to access the internal structure and replace sections of rotting support structure, as well as addressing areas of rust on internal plates and bolts. The perway team have been putting in the hours recently as we work towards the return of train operations at Cooma. Not only have the team been repairing track to allow our Rail Motors to traverse the yard, they've also been toiling away on a number of the Goods roads in Cooma yard to allow rolling stock to be moved to different locations around the yard. How time flies! Next week will be 6 months since our museum opened last December, and what an exciting 6 months it has been, with the arrival of Steam Locomotive 3203 and winning the award for Outstanding Visitor Experience at the recent Snowy Monaro Business Awards. Over the past few months, our volunteers have been working on a number of projects that will expand the current museum experience and allow visitors to get up close to some of our heritage rolling stock. 3203 is back together

How awesome is it to see this beautiful machine back together at its new home in Cooma. Another successful delivery this morning as Australian Train and Railway Services arrived from Broadmeadow with the tender. Before 3203 is moved into its new shelter besides the goods shed, it will get a full clean and assessment by our volunteers while sitting on Goods Road No.4. 3203 (Part 1) Has Landed

What an exciting morning here at Cooma Monaro Railway Museum. Arriving shortly after sunrise, 3203 rode into town in the safe hands of Australian Train Movers and was unloaded onto Goods Siding No.4 by Cooma Crane Hire. What a sight it was seeing it suspended in the air and slowly lowered onto the rails at its new home in the Monaro. Locomotive 3203 is southbound

The locomotive has been loaded and is currently on it's way southbound. Based on the current schedule, we expect the locomotive to arrive in Cooma during the early hours of tomorrow (Wednesday) morning with the crane scheduled to begin the unloading process sometime around 7.00-7.30am. The tender is currently scheduled to arrive on a separate truck during Wednesday afternoon. The museum will be open for visitors who would like to watch the unloading and get an early look at 3203. What a huge honour tonight to win the "Outstanding Visitor Experience" award at the 2023 Snowy Monaro Business Awards. This is such a privilege for our organisation and a massive reward for all the volunteers and supporters that have helped us get to where we are today. It's difficult to explain how many hours and private resources are invested into developing and maintaining an attraction like this but it is absolutely worth it when we receive recognition like this. A huge shout out to Future Generation today for assisting our team with the relocation of our shed frame from the rear of the Railway Institute Building, to it's new home in our Perway Depot. The size and weight of the frame was beyond our team and our machinery, so we reached out to Future Generation for some assistance and they were more than happy to help out. Steam locomotive 3203 coming to Cooma

We are extremely excited to announce that NSW Railways Steam Locomotive 3203 will arrive at it's new home in Cooma on the 10th of May after completing it's cosmetic restoration in Broadmeadow by Transport Heritage NSW volunteers. The locomotive will be transported by road from Broadmeadow to Cooma where it will be unloaded by crane and shunted into it's temporary storage shelter on Goods Road No. 3, on the eastern side of the Goods Shed in Cooma yard.
